Get Involved

Lake City Farm is closing down!  We are relocating to Toronto sometime this summer because of Bob's job.  We have enjoyed creating a wonderful urban farm and will take all our knowledge and experience with us to the big city and keep on growing somehow.  Thanks for your support and look us up in Toronto.

There won't be an apprentice program for the 2012 season but check back for the 2013 season to see what we are up to!

Lake City Farm offers a one-of-a-kind apprenticeship and volunteer experience in Halifax.
If you’re hard-working, passionate about local food, and looking to create your own niche in urban gardening, this is an ideal way to get outside this summer and learn about urban farming:

Learning how to build a raised bed
  • -Prepping, planning, soil amendments and compost
  • -Seed starting and transplanting
  • -Natural weed and pest management
  • -SPIN (small plot intensive) methods: cut-and-grow crops, companion planting, continual harvesting
  • -Harvesting and food preparation
  • -Vending at Farmers’ Markets and marketing to restaurants, green grocers and other retailers
  • -Managing a CSA Co-op Program
Apprenticeships and volunteering are great ways to share knowledge, exchange resources, grow our local food network, and encourage new farmers to get involved.
